It's sometimes little things that hurt the most.

I today it warmed up a little bit but it was still a bit chilly so I decided to pull Pistol's blanket and put a lighter weight one on. I dug out a medium weight blanket that was originally Yellow's but Piney wore it for the first part of winter the first year I had him. I put it on Pistol and it was a bit small but will work for the night. I buckled him up and as I was adjusting the front buckles for the last time I looked down and saw that the barn I boarded at had written "Piney" on the strap. It broke my heart. It really didn't help that it still smelled like Piney either. It sometimes is really small things that hurt the most.

  1. :( I marked Red's brand new winter blankets with his name a month before I had to put him down and I don't have the heart to cross it out and put Bobby's name on them for this year.

    1. It sucks. It sucks big time. :-( I remember having a hard time using the blanket for Piney because it was Yellow's blanket and I didn't want it to get wrecked. I'm glad someone knows how sucky it feels.

    2. And by glad I don't really mean glad. I mean that it makes it easier knowing that this sort of thing is tough on others

  2. Those physical reminders are hard.

I just now was able to wash my Sweetpea's favorite blanket. Still smelled like her...

    1. They really, really are. I remember how hard it was for me to wash this blanket so Piney could use it. It still smelled like Yellow so i had wrapped myself up in it and cried before I could get it into the washing machine.

  3. I still have chestnut hair from my gelding Beckham in some of Allie's rugs that used to belong to him. I don't have the heart to wash them out as I feel it is like washing him away out of my life. It's been two and a half years.

    1. I have a nice curry that would do more good being used on my horses but it's filled with Yellow's hairs and I can't seem to have the heart to clean them out and use them.

  5. Little things usually do hurt the most, I know how you feel, but I agree with Sally, you must have great memories with him.
